Poetry Day & Next Event
'All Ireland Poetry Day' went extremely well for us at The Dock. It all started that morning with Eileen doing a workshop with the first years of Carrick's secondary school which was covered by Eileen Magnier for broadcast on RTE's Six One news that evening as they did their bit to publicise Poetry Day. Next Dermot Healy arrived for his workshop at The Dock and this was also filmed for an upcoming documentary on him to be shown on RTE early next year. The main event itself in the theatre attracted over 50 people, many of whom read. Dermot even had time for an unbilled appearance at the beginning of the show. But one of the biggest surprises for us all was the American poet Karen Douglass, pictured, just happening to be on holidays in the area, hearing about our event and approaching us to take part. She read in both halves of the show and we are so grateful for her involvement. David Cameron also did an amazing performance and we are thankful to him for taking part as well. Our other guest Gian Castello did a fine job providing music. In case your wondering how we had an Italian involved, Gian and his partner Kitia run 'The Yellow Ducati B&B' in Drumshanbo where you can also experience a genuine Italian dinner if you give them a call. Stitchy Press also came and set up their stall so thanks to them and of course everyone who showed up.Our next event is 'Writer's Reading' in Berry's Tavern, Drumshanbo on Friday 30th October and the theme is Halloween. You can still read anything you like but bear in mind some people will be reading ghost stories!
